Om studiet

The programme prepares you to contribute to community-based health promotion and disease prevention research globally. You will be able to use research findings to help improve the quality and effectiveness of community health action.

The programme seeks to recruit everyone who has a bachelor’s degree in health or social sciences. It is especially relevant for applicants with a background in

  • medicine
  • nursing
  • nutrition
  • public health
  • physiotherapy
  • social anthropology
  • political science
  • health economics
  • environmental and planetary health sciences
  • sociology
  • gender studies

Applicants to the programme are encouraged to submit a motivation letter and provide information on prior relevant work experience which counts into the final selection score.

Fieldwork and research projects

You will spend one full semester doing fieldwork either in Norway or abroad where you will address various topics of community health. You can also use already collected data such as those from previous and ongoing research projects, routinely collected surveillance data or national registry, to write your thesis.
Academic staff with solid experience in global health research are responsible for the program courses. They will prepare you to do your own research.

Throughout the program you will learn how to

  • assess relevant literature
  • understand and use both quantitative and qualitative research methodologies
  • plan a research project
  • implement research ethics
  • write academically

Multidisciplinary education

This master's degree programme is multidisciplinary, multicultural, and multi-professional, creating the broadest possible learning environment. Diverse interactive teaching approaches are used in the programme and includes
