Children start primary school at the age of six. The first ten years of school is compulsory. After seven years of primary school, pupils attend secondary school. Most schools are run by municipalities and are free of charge.
Those who have not completed primary and lower secondary education, can get an assessment of their informal competence. This could lead to further education.
